NHS - For Sponsors

Overview: Sponsors play an important role in helping students grow as leaders, but their time commitment should be minimal. Most Personal Leadership Projects (PLPs) are run entirely by the student, with the sponsor offering occasional guidance, supervision, and verifying completion. Students are expected to lead every aspect of the project from start to finish.

PLP Sponsor Expectations

As a PLP sponsor, your role is to support - not lead - the student through their independently-run project. You are expected to:

Serve as a sounding board for ideas and help the student stay organized.
Encourage full student ownership from idea to execution.
Supervise the event (if applicable)—sponsors must be physically present for the full duration.
Help book event spaces early (ideally weeks in advance).
Ensure announcements/fliers meet D94 Communications Guidelines and submit announcements to announcements@d94.org by 9:00 a.m. the day they should run. (Note: same announcement = max two consecutive days before a redesign is required.)
Oversee any fundraising or donation collection per these protocols:
1. Request a cash box (up to $40 starter cash) from the NHS adviser at least one week prior.
2. Safeguard and collect the cash box daily.
3. Return the full box and a record of earnings for processing.
4. Ensure students do not handle large sums of money unsupervised.
5. Ensure the donation log is submitted.
6. Note: The business office will issue a check to any external organization receiving PLP-related donations.
Reinforce that students (not you) must manage proposals, supplies, materials, marketing, progress check-ins, and documentation.
Expect milestone-based check-ins and avoid managing last-minute scrambles.

About the Proposal and Agreement Form

Before a student begins their Personal Leadership Project (PLP), they are required to submit a detailed proposal and review it with their sponsor. As the sponsor, you will receive a copy of the proposal outlining the project's purpose, timeline, goals, and logistics. You must sign the PLP Sponsor Agreement to confirm your understanding of expectations. A signed copy should be kept for your reference, and a second copy must be returned to the NHS advisor by the student.
