National Honor Society was founded in 1921 to bring together students and encourage scholarship, leadership, good character, and community service. NHS chapters are found in all 50 states as well as several other countries, with over 10,000 chapters existing across the globe. West Chicago Community High School's chapter is comprised of approximately 75-100 members on average.

NHS is a club committed to serving our school and our community. NHS runs charity events and fundraisers and organizes volunteer trips for members. Additionally, all members complete 20+ hours of community service per year. Over the 24-25 school year, a collective 3,010 service hours were earned, and 31 members were recognized as United Nations National Community Service Award winners.

Eligible incoming juniors and seniors with a cumulative GPA of 4.5 or higher will be invited to apply during the summer. Selection is not automatic: students must complete a formal application that demonstrates excellence in service, leadership, and character.

Applicants must also have completed at least five hours of community service before applying.
