Claim

To make an assertion as if fact. To make an argument.

Chewing gum has educational benefits and should be allowed and encouraged in schools.

Evidence

State the evidence and tell where you found it that proves your claim.

According to British Psychological Society, chewing causes our hearts to pump more blood to our brain than it usually does. More blood, means more oxygen helping the brain function better. The rhythmic chewing also increases attention. Mental tasks are done up to 20% more effectively while chewing gum.

Reasoning

Link the evidence to the claim. In doing this you also link to the higher principle or theory you are trying to prove.

Today, in most schools across the United States there are rules against chewing gum. Administrators and teachers often look at gum chewing as a distraction in the classroom. However, scientific research has proven that chewing gum has a positive impact on our brains and can lead to students performing more efficiently and effectively in their academic endeavors.
