TEST INFORMATION

The SAT is an admission test accepted by all U.S. colleges, and the College Board has programs to encourage all students to take advantage of higher education. Income-eligible SAT takers receive college application fees and waivers, and all students can opt into Student Search Service to receive free information about admission and financial aid from colleges, universities, and scholarship programs (CollegeBoard.org).

The SAT has 3 multiple-choice tests: Reading Test, Writing and Language Test, Math Test, and an optional essay. Students are given an overall score of 400-1600. The College Board website offers good information about the test, as well as free test prep through Khan Academy online.  The 2023-2024 school year will be the first year that all standardized testing will be done online.  We will start emailing out information for these test after winter break.

ACT

THS CODE: 144155

The ACT consists of four multiple-choice tests: English, Reading, Math, and Science (with an optional Writing portion). Students are given a score (1-36) for each test as well as an overall score. The Writing test score does not affect a student’s Composite score. However, many colleges use the Writing Test score for course placement. Since there is no penalty for guessing, students should answer every question. If you take the ACT Plus Writing, your report will be mailed when all your scores, including Writing, are available, usually within 5-7 weeks after the test date.Score reports are normally mailed within 3-7 weeks after test date.

EXAM FEES:

$60 ACT (no writing)

$85 ACT with writing

If you think you may be eligible, please speak with your counselor about an Exam Fee Waiver

THS CODE: 144155

The ASVAB is a standardized aptitude test that measures ability in science, math, and language. The ASVAB is also apart of the military entrance exam, however, we do NOT report ASVAB scores to anyone. The test results offer and the online resources provided after the test give a great view into student strengths, this information can then be used to help students map out their future plans.  THS administiers the ASVAB to all juniors in the fall. If any familes want to opt their student out of this testing they may contact Mrs. Whightsil to do so.
