4th Grade Enriched Math
This year we will be primarily using the 5th Grade Math In Focus: Singapore Math program. We will work through the units at an appropriate pace for this class, focusing not just on calculation, but digging deeply into number sense and problem solving. The program incorporates a number of components that allow for differentiation to make sure that all students are successful and challenged, depending on their needs.
Note: Many of the chapters in Math In Focus have only a few lessons in them. Each lesson will typically take between 2 and 3 days to complete. I will talk more about pacing at Back-to-School Night.

Homework Policy
HOMEWORK:
The purpose and intention of math homework is for practice. Math, much like playing a sport, requires upkeep and practice so skills are not lost or forgotten.
Nightly, (with the exception of Friday) your son or daughter will have math homework (practice).
Homework (practice) should take no more than 20-30 minutes a night. If you are finding that a particular assignment is taking your son or daughter more than 30 minutes, please stop them and jot a note in the assignment notebook.
With our new curriculum and the curriculum requirement of teaching to mastery, homework may not always be a worksheet. In the event there is not a formal homework sheet or workbook page assigned for homework, I still expect students to be practicing math.
***On any night that a formal homework assignment was lost or left at school, 20-30 minutes of "alternative practice” should be completed instead. Please note that this incident will result in grade reduction of 10% for the night and the missing worksheet will need to be completed the following night. With our new curriculum setup, I will not be able to email homework or post copies of homework online.
