Frequently Asked Questions

1. How will I know if my child has been placed in the Enrichment Program?

Decisions for placement in Reading Enrichment and Math Acceleration for next year will be made before the end of the school year. Letters for all qualifying students will be sent or mailed home in early June. Students may qualify for Reading only, Math only, or both sections.

2. If my child is currently in Math or Reading Enrichment, will I receive a letter for next year?

Students who are currently in the Enrichment Program will not receive letters, and will continue in their current class placement. Each program has its own criteria, so placement in reading and/or math is determined independently.

3. If my child is not placed in the program at this time, can they qualify in the future?

The addition of new students can happen any time we receive new data. MAP scores in the fall, winter and spring are analyzed and if students meet the criteria, their parents will be notified.

4. What determines placement?

Identification for the Enrichment Program is based on the previous two MAP assessments and the CogAT tests that students take in 2nd grade. We also consult with classroom teachers and look at any other information available to us to help us make the best decisions.

5. My child scored very high on the National Percentiles on the test reports sent home, but is still not in the Enrichment Program. Why does this occur?

We do not use national percentiles to determine placement, as District 57 students typically perform well above students nationally. Instead we compare them to the students in their grade level at their school.

6. Is it true that there are only a certain number of spots for students in the program?

No. Class sizes are determined on the number of students that meet the criteria.
