Thank you Christine for participating in our 2021 Mothers Day Sale! We love seing the results of our efforts. We did not know how this year would go after the pandemic, but this brightened our day.
Esmeralda, one of the owners ofLa Cultura (formerly Mi Ranchito), is so passionate about food. So much that she uses our produce to make authentic, organic, Mexican food for our learners every Wednesday. It is the highlight of the week! She is passionate about showing our learners that you can make inexpensive meals. During the summer, she used our peppers to make delicious and spicy sauces for us and for her restaurant.
Romaine lettuce is the primary crop that we grow in our Aquaponics Greenhouse. We sell this weekly to GroFresh 365. We aim to sell 20+ pounds a week. During Summer 2021, we also sold them basil weekly. For a couple months, our plants were producing 6 pounds week!
They have also been our mentors since the beginning of the aquaponics at R5. They help us with issues all the time. There are so many things that can go wrong from plant diseases, mold, bugs, dead fish, water heaters, etc. Thank you Rick and Gus for always being there for us.
Kiwanis lets us pick a student of the month and treats them to lunch, presents an award to them, and offers scholarships. We usually choose one of our stellar garden or aquaponics helpers and this past month we chose Maddy. Thank you Kiwanis for helping us recognize our learners for their hard work!
Thai Number 9 was very thankful for our Thai eggplant and jalepenos. We loved being able to bring them buckets of produce to use. We hope to continue partnering with them in the future!
Cafe Sol was extremely excited to take our beets. They were kind enough to give us a gift card which we are rewarding one of our stellar aquaponics helpers with :)
The staff in our Human Resources department, which is across the street, was so supportive during our weekly harvest. They bought many shares from us that included canteloupe, beets, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and much more!
One of the ways we make money from our garden is by selling our cherry tomatoes and cucumbers to District 51 Nutrtition services. They put them in the salad bars at the bigger schools in the district. They are so supportive and we are thankful for their partnership. Thank you Austin for working with us!
