Wellness Policy: Goal 2
The District will provide an employee wellness program to improve employee health and promote a healthier work environment in order to increase employee productivity, job satisfaction, job effectiveness and reduce absenteeism.
Employee wellness initiatives support a broad range of employee needs, including physical, emotional, and financial well-being. A comprehensive employee wellness initiative can boost staff productivity, morale, performance, and retention while improving student outcomes and decreasing costs.
The District shall:
Provide opportunities for employees to access targeted initiatives, wellness promotion, education, and resources that promote good nutrition, physical activity and mental health.
Provide and promote participation in health-related programs (i.e. health screenings, lifestyle modification, employee, and other programs) that are linked to a healthy work life balance.
Conduct annual wellness surveys and/or health risk assessments; and
Principals and/or site leader shall:
Promote the wellness policy in its entirety.
Encourage and support participation in wellness activities and/or programs.
The Employee Wellness Champion shall:
Promote the wellness policy in its entirety.
Promote and/or coordinate employee wellness, activities and education within contractual time;
Promote participation in health-related programs (i.e. health screenings, lifestyle modifications, and other programs) that are linked to a healthy work-life balance; and
Provide awareness and encourage utilization of health and wellness resources.

May Wellness Challenge
Goal: Build consistency and community relationships by recording walking, biking, and activities in May’s Wellness Challenge! This challenge supports the broader Grand Valley Bike Month which offers multiple ways to get out and get involved. Each week’s points must be entered in the GoodLife
portal by 9:00 am on the Monday immediately following each week.
Points:
Earn 1 point for walking or biking 1-2.9 miles in a week.
Earn 2 points for walking or biking 3 or more miles in a week.
Earn 1 point for attending a community event and uploading a selfie.
Earn 5 points for participating in Walking or Biking to work on May 1st, and Walk and Wheel Day on May 8th and uploading a selfie.
Prize Eligibility: Earn a minimum of 3 points a week to be
entered to be one of 25 winners of the prize raffle.
Events with Extra Points
Earn 5 points each for participating in Walking or Biking to Work on May 1st and Walk & Wheel Day on May 8th! Ditch the car and try walking, biking or rolling to school. Families can find their safest route to school by downloading the Mesa County Safe Routes mobile app, visit mesacountysaferoutes.com for walking and rolling
resources and the Mesa County SRTS map. Don’t forget to upload a selfie to get your points!

Log Activity: Each week’s points must be entered in the GoodLife portal by 9:00 am on the Monday immediately following each week.

Need a bike to participate? Free Commuter Bike Rentals!
Brown Cycles is offering free commuter bike rentals in May; rentals are available for one week at a time. Brown Cycles is located at 549 Main Street in Grand Junction. This special runs May 1-31. Renters need to rent a bike in person and sign a liability form (in case the bike is lost or stolen). Must reserve the rental with a credit card and renew the rental each week. Return the bike at the end of May for absolutely no charge. Be sure to say hi to the bunnies when you stop in to rent your bike.
