The Fruita Middle School band has been hard at work on music for the upcoming concerts! Here are some of the upcoming events!
1. Our first event is for 7th- and 8th-graders to attend the Colorado Bandmasters Festival! The times are yet to be decided. (3/10/26)
2. 4/15/26 is the Pre-festival Concert for all students (6th grade may or may not play in the festival; this will be decided). 6. This is our last and final event of the school year, sadly. But! this is THE FESTIVAL! The festival is an event where students go to play special music for judges. (Happens on 4/22-25/26)
That's all for the band!

Everyone has a favorite song or artist, but how often do we actually know what our friends are listening to? Surprisingly you can learn a lot about someone’s personality and interests based on their musical preferences. In fact, you can even bond with someone by sharing similar interests. Like many I was curious as to what tunes my friends were listening to. So I devised a sit down interview with a handful of them. My findings were shocking, fascinating, and most of all intriguing.
My first interviewee was Scout Greener, a seventh grader in core 7’2. I decided to interview Scout because she is actually in my journalism class and she sits right next to me. From occasionally the music coming from her headphones, I could tell she had a very unique taste. Everything I gathered from the interview showed me Scout’s favorite song is End of Summer by Tame Impala, her most listened to artist is Ren, and she discovered that she liked Ren from hearing her dad listen to him. The most important thing I gathered came from asking her, “What do you think people can learn about you from learning your music preferences?” To which she replied, “That I’m an indecisive person."
The next person I interviewed was Paisley. This seventh grader actually inspired me to listen to most of my favorite artists so I was sure she would have some insightful ideas for all of my inquiries. My interview showed that Paisley’s favorite songs are Creep by Radiohead, Magnolia by Laufey, and Nuts by Lil Peep. I also learned that her particular music taste represents that she is “kinda random and diverse” she elaborated further, “because I listen to a lot of different artists from different genres.”
Kylie was my next person of interest due to her extensive musical knowledge. Kylie told me her favorite song was Feelz by Lil Peep, her favorite artist is either Lil Peep or Treaty Oak, she spends a lot of time listening to music, and this translates into the fact her music taste shows that she, “knows ball.”
Ultimately, through all of this I have learned from the selected people I observed I have some indecisive, omnivorous, well educated music listeners as friends. However, my research is certainly nothing more than a scratch at the surface. For, I could've asked more in depth questions about what time my friends listen to certain songs rather than others, has their music taste changed over the years, or how often they listen to music? My ending conclusion is that music really can reflect a person’s personality. I also found that learning about what type of music someone likes can be a fun way to understand them better.
