What Happens to the old FMS Building
The FMS school is closing down at the end of the year after many years of having a school full of students. It has finally made it to its end days. So, you are probably wondering what is going to happen to the building? Is it going to be demolished? Are they going to use it for something else? We asked the principal Mr. Johnston and here is what he said.
FMS Times: "Were you the one to decide to close down the school or was it like a big decision by the superintendent and the board?"
Mr. Johnston: "It was a board decision and they got community input, they got student input and staff input but the board just decided it didn't make sense to operate two different buildings with the high cost to operate two different buildings."
FMS Times: "So do you think they made the right decision?"
Mr. Johnston: "I think they made the right decision to close down the school because it makes more sense to just operate one building and have the configuration be the same as everywhere else. My big concern during the whole process was whether it was fine with the Fruita middle school staff and community".
FMS Times: Do you know what is happening to the FMS building?
Mr. Johnston: "At this point, we will just have to wait and see, the district has not decided on anything yet."
After everything Mr. Johnston said, we have concluded that we really don’t know much about what is happening to the old building. We do know however, that FMS is moving on to something new. We are excited to see what this new year will bring, but we never forget all of the good times, treasured memories, amazing people, and rich history that has been a part of our faithful building for many many years.
