Have you ever really wanted to put your work out there or are really good at spelling? Well, in this exclusive double feature of a club, you can participate in either one by going to one room, Mrs. Jonson in the sixth grade downstairs. and here is the interview!
“How did you get into running the yearbook committee and the spelling bee?”
“I had just got hired and I think it was like my second year of teaching and the lady who was doing spelling bee before that retired and so it just became an opening and I wasn't really doing anything at the time for the school and as far as clubs or anything so I volunteered to do it and it's just been doing it ever since. And the yearbook it was a couple years after I started teaching, I think because the person who did it before me was Mrs. Caroll and then she moved to science and when she moved to science our principal at the time asked me if I would like to do the yearbook and I said absolutely because that sounded like a super fun job”
What do you feel during the clubs?”
“ whenever they're the days when the spelling be in the yearbook kind of stuff like right before the district spelling meet I feel super nervous and stressed out especially this year because I had to host the spelling bee so all the schools came here to Fruita middle school so it's just like a lot of planning that's involved and making sure that everything runs smoothly and then as far as your book I mean definitely the couple weeks before the yearbook is due which is usually the end of February it's just a lot of stress of finishing the pages and making sure everything looks right and deadline but once the stuff is done then it's huge relief.”
CHESS CLUB 2024
BY: HOLDEN CLARK
To anyone who is interested in playing chess, whether you are good or bad, chess club is the place for you. It is located in Mr. Cole's room and will be hosted on Tuesdays from 3:07-4:00 and you may even see some other teachers in the chess club playing, like Mr. Williams, Mr. Carroll, etc. And now, here's a special interview with Mr. Cole.
“Why did you decide to take the responsibility of running a chess club?”
“Because I really enjoy chess and I think it's really helping students' problem-solving ability and to see ways to use strategy and I also think it's a lot of fun just as a game it uses a lot of brain power”
“Why did you get or how did you get into chess?”
“When I was in college and my roommate taught me how to play chess basically just so he could four move Checkmate me but that's the first time I learned how to play and then Mr. Williams was doing chess club and I joined one day and found it quite interesting and then the rest is history”
“What are the benefits of playing chess”
“ Well I think it can help in problem solving ability because you are in basically a big problem most of the time in chess you're either on the move or you're in a retreat and you're always trying to be on the move on the attack and I think that's a good way to view school rather maybe not use the word attack but we're always on the offensive looking to do our best in school looking to study for a test making sure that we have everything prepared I think it's really good for cognitive ability as well you have to use your brain to Envision multiple scenarios and how those are going to turn out you have to look two or three or even four moves ahead and I think that can also be a helpful strategy for life and it's just a fun way to use your brain and play a game at the same time”
“Who is the best chess player you have ever played against or personally met”
“The best chess player I've ever played against and met was Noah. I don't remember his last name from last year. He was the best player I was able to stalemate him once so that was pretty awesome, but he was able to beat everybody including Mr. Williams. Mr. Williams is a close second to the best chess player”
“And lastly and how does it make you feel about running chess club”
“I enjoyed it a lot and it's a good time for me to be able to meet some of the other students I may not be in my class to meet a lot of sixth graders and really have a good time on Tuesday afternoon using our brains to get some strategy ready and check meeting our opponent.”
“Thank you”
“you're welcome. “

Join Mr. Bonner (also known as Coach Bonner) on Fridays to play Quidditch! It's a combination of dodgeball and broomsticks, which a lot of kids seem to enjoy. Coach Bonner was exclusively interviewed. Here is a sneak peek at Coach Bonner's opinions on Quidditch Club
"Should kids participate in Quidditch Club?"
Bonner - Yes, it’s one the most inclusive club on campus, and it is made for both grades (6-7), soon to be all grades. All grades and genders are allowed to come to Quidditch Club to have a good time.
"Is Quidditch Club fun for both you and the students that participate?"
Bonner - I have a great time with these kids, except when people play in an unfair way. Other “unfun” times are when people get hurt while playing, but overall, it's good, and I think kids should participate in Quidditch.
"Do you think Quidditch Club is worth the time and effort in the end?"
Bonner - Yes
