Educational Best Practices: supports a system of instruction that emphasizes high-quality core instruction for ALL students, targeted strategic support for students who need additional help academically or behaviorally (tier 2), and intensive support for students with more intensive achievement gaps (tier 3).
Elementary School: Extending the school day for our K-3 students provides teachers enough flexibility in their daily schedule to accommodate additional 30-minute reading and math interventions daily. This would allow our system of support to target Tier 2 and Tier 3 students more effectively and increase our academic achievement broadly across all grades.
Secondary School: Extending the school day for our 6-12th grade students provides teachers with enough flexibility in their daily schedule to allow students and teachers to work together on mastering the standards. This would allow the teachers to use the data they look at on Fridays for Tier 1 decisions of instruction which would include interventions or enhancements in their daily classes.
A sample schedule of teacher collaboration can be located under "Implementation"; these collaborative meetings would help to isolate and target the differentiated needs of each student and progress monitor their achievements gained during these intervention blocks.
