APRiL HIGHLIGHTS & END OF THE YEAR ACTIVITIES
Students in Dr. Wilson's classroom had a fun trip to Woodman's. They practiced finding items in the correct department, following a list, and asking for help. Students also learned how to wait in line and pay for their items using the dollar up method. This trip helped them become more independent and confident out in the community. In addition, students participated in a school lesson about neurodiversity awareness and acceptance. The classroom was then put into a raffle for a free pizza lunch. Dr. Wilson's classroom won! Students enjoyed a pizza lunch from Rosati's paid for by District 300. Nice work students!
Students in Mrs. Rollins' classroom had been a busy month. Earlier in the month, they wrapped up DLM testing and the students were very excited to be finished. In Social Studies, they completed a unit on American wars and have now begun learning about the changing environment. Students also went on a community trip to Walmart and Menchie’s. For many students, it was their first time at a frozen yogurt shop and they really enjoyed choosing from the different flavors and toppings. Finally, May is shaping up to be another busy month, especially for our 8th graders!
Students in all low incidence classrooms were able to go outside for APE/PE and enjoy the beautiful weather. Some students went on the adapted swing, had ice cream, and read a book. They also had a lot of fun playing with shaving cream! In addition, students are finishing the Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) testing. This is the State testing for the school year. Students have worked hard to complete their assessments and show what they know. They practiced focusing, following directions, and doing their best. We are proud of their effort and perseverance during testing.
Students in Dr. Wilson's and Mrs. Zimmerman's classrooms had visitors from Lincoln Prairie and Eastview. Students that will be new incoming 6th graders for next school year toured DMS, visited their new classroom, and met their new classmates & teachers. They enjoyed learning about their new classrooms and routines. This visit helped them feel more comfortable and excited about the transition for next year!
Finally, there will be many exciting end of the year activities coming up in May! On May 12th, students will be visiting Deicke Park in Huntley to meet incoming elementary students. They will spend time playing, talking, and getting to know each other. Students will practice social skills like sharing, taking turns, and making new friends. This visit will help build connections and make everyone feel more comfortable for next year. Also in May, students will be participating in their last snack delivery to teachers, buddy club, 8th grade activities, and outside fun. Some students may walk to Randall Oak Park on the last week of school and participate in end of the year activities. More information to come. Lastly, congratulations to all 8th graders this year! Recognition Night will be May 20th at 7:00 PM at JHS. More information to follow. We are so proud of you all and can't wait to hear about your new High School adventures!
