Welcome back to school Cardunals! It’s the 2024-2025 school year, and everyone is excited to welcome you back (or to) DMS! Important highlights of this new and updated version of the Cardunal Chronicle will be documented here. The new highlights of this current school year are:
Midnight Mile! Congratulations to everyone who participated, and we hope you join next year if you didn’t!
Many clubs are starting up! Join a multitude of clubs, from Outdoor Club, Yoga Club, and so much more!
DMS Intramurals are starting! Be aware that if you want to join an intramural, you need to fill out the Dundee Middle School Athletic Registration.
School Store started early this month! If you want to join you need to have your Cardunal Cash to get in early.
This past month, we wore pink on Tuesdays to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness and we wore blue on Thursdays to celebrate Bullying Prevention Month.
It’s a great new year for all the Cardunals, and we all would like to welcome the 6th grade students coming in! We say farewell to the 8th graders, and bring in many more faces. In the DMS community, everyone is valued. Keep up the good work Cardunals, and have yourself a great day!
Lots of 6th graders are usually nervous or anxious about going to a different school. They can feel confused, worried, or like they’re “not gonna survive middle school,” but from what I’ve heard some kids are actually starting to like middle school. Is that how you feel or do you have different feelings? From what I’ve heard most kids have been saying they like it or some even say they love it. Lots of 6th graders say they feel they have more freedom. They enjoy having more activities than elementary school thanks to DMS. On the other hand, a few 6th graders say they think they enjoyed elementary school better than middle school and that middle school is stressful. But what do you think? Do you think middle school is fun?
Jessica Sebastian's advice: The best thing to do when you enter the 6th grade, is to not spend too much time trying to do things that please your friends.Try to please yourself more.If your friend has a conflict with another person, the best thing would be to not join it. If you do, anything can go wrong. Always remember that one good friend is all you need.
Harry Yang’s advice: I quit the game Brawl Stars made by Supercell in seventh grade. I wish I had quit sooner. In my opinion, that game is not healthy for you. I felt freed and refreshed after I had quit. Not because I was mad at the game, but because you get addicted. I do not like the fact that the “Brawl Pass” is so cheap. It encourages you to spend money on the game. When you spend money on one thing in this game, you will feel inclined to spend more money on in-game currency. The fact that this mobile game you can play on your phone is so addicting, you might play on your phone during class. Brawl Stars taking time away from your learning is not a good habit to have. You will be happier after you conclude playing the game Brawl Stars made by Supercell in my experience. It truly pains me to see people from the earlier generation melting their minds on Brawl Stars.

The Midnight Mile is one of the most anticipated events of the year and it did not disappoint. It took place on Friday, September 27, 2024. To participate, runners completed logs over a course of six weeks to show their training progress. Also, there was a one mile test and a two mile test to prove you are ready for the event. The event was a 24 hour running challenge. Runners were split into groups and ran relay style throughout the 24 hours. Runners camped out at DMS overnight for tons of fun! One of the runners, Joseph Stanski said, “The run is fun and even though it’s hard work, it’s definitely worth it!” The midnight mile not only demands focus and determination, but it shows runners how their hard work pays off and is rewarding.
Orchestra Festival
by Tori Flores Cortez
The eight grade orchestra festival was on October 4th at Dundee Crown High School, and it was a major success. The eight grade orchestra, which consisted of DMS, AMS, and CMS orchestras played “Night Ride,” “Cielito Lindo,” and “Cliffs of Moher.” The Dundee Crown Quartet opened the festival with Mozart 19 “dissonance.”
Make sure to congratulate our very own orchestra members on their outstanding performance on monday, and break a leg to the choir members who have their own festival on October 28th!
