What is Newspaper Club?
Newspaper Club is a club that allows students an opportunity to write articles and report on the news around DMS. It includes school events, clubs, sports, activities and more. The newspaper club consists of editors and reporters. Our job is to report on any school news to let everyone know of it.
Who is the club sponsor?
Mrs. Lagrippe, a 6th grade science teacher, runs the newspaper club. She isn’t the only one who runs it, as it is mostly student-run.
Why should you join the Newspaper?
Newspaper club is a fun way to learn about other clubs and activities, and is an amazing opportunity to practice your article writing skills. Newspaper Club also allows you to connect with other grade level students, and enhances your social skills when you need to interview people for an article. Articles aren’t the only things we write, you also have an opportunity to write your own short stories, or any other creative writing and have it posted on the newspaper.
Overall, the newspaper club is a fun way to express yourself while strengthening your writing skills in the process.

Dundee Middle School hosts the 2D and 3D Art Club throughout the fall. These two clubs are sponsored by Mrs. Lunde, the exploratory art teacher. The 3D art club, true to its name, works with clay for this fall term! The 3D art club is after school on Thursdays. This club allows students in AVID to get a feeling of what it’s like for the non-AVID kids, and allows non-AVID kids more chances to do art! Addie Cody certainly agrees with this, during her interview she said this, “As an AVID student, it gives me the feeling of the art exploratory even if I’m not doing it. I really enjoy this club!” She had a direct message to AVID kids, “AVID kids, it gives you the experience of art,”. After my brief interview with Ms. Cody, I interviewed the sponsor of the club, Mrs. Lunde. “In the fall course of the 3D art club, we allow each grade, each skill level of art. From barely doing art, to doing art everyday,”. This art club allows anybody to join! When asking Mrs. Lunde about how you will join she told me this, “It’s on a first-come, first serve basis, Only 30 kids are allowed to join this club,” 6th grader, Amelia Cwanek took the wonderful picture of her clay project! Anyone was welcome to join this club, as long as they submitted it in a timely manner!
What is chess? Chess is a strategic board game that consists of a tiled 8 x 8 board, and has 36 pieces, 16 per side. The pieces are 16 pawns, 8 per side, 2 knights on each side, 2 bishops on each side, 2 rooks on each side, and one king and queen on each side per side. The basic objective of the game is to put the opponent's king piece into checkmate, where they cannot be moved anywhere without becoming captured.
When and where do they meet? They meet every Monday after school, in Ms. LaGrippe’s classroom, except for a few days, when they meet on Friday before school.
What do members say about Chess Club? One person said, “I like how I can practice and get better at playing chess.” Another person said, “I like being able to socialize with people and beat them by a landslide.” The final person said, “My favorite part is being able to face new challenges against people.”
2D Art Club Tyler Freitas
On October 1st, I interviewed the mastermind behind the 2D Art Club, Ms.Lunde. 2D Art Club is usually on paper as opposed to 3D Art Club which is more about sculpture. I interviewed her about her future plans for the 2D Art Club. She showed me the list of student choices for what to draw. People voted for anatomy, faces, color theory, painting, oil pastels, animals/wildlife, and landscape
Inktober is held in October, encouraging you to draw from October 1st to October 31st. The first drawing of Inktober’s theme was inking, or drawing a backpack as the center focus.
