LMS is short for Learning Management System. An LMS is a framework that handles all aspects of a learning environment. It is the infrastructure that delivers and manages content to students. Many teachers use and LMS in the classroom as a place to house curriculum, engage students in online discussions, organize portfolios, quiz students, and provide overall communication about a course. Each teacher may choose to use an LMS in a different way.
Can I have access to my student's LMS?
It is recommended that you ask your student to show you which LMS they are using. In some cases, there is a parent login that teachers may send out. This is at each teacher's discretion.
Which LMS will my student be using?
District 214 supports both Moodle and Schoology for teachers to use in their classes. Although these are the supported systems, teachers are not required to use either. It is recommended that you talk with your student about which LMS is used in each class. If your student is unsure, please contact the teacher.
Are the grades on the LMS official grades?
One of the great features of using an LMS is the ability to grade assignments and offer feedback to students. Although you may see grades in the grade book of the LMS, our official grade book is on Infinite Campus. Please refer to Infinite Campus for any questions you may have about grades for your student.
Workflow describes how content is both delivered to students and collected from students. This can be done in various ways:
Workflow may vary from class to class. If you or your student have any concerns about information or how to turn in an assignment, always refer to the teacher of that class.
This iMovie trailer highlights how one school in District 214 is using iPads:
All of the classrooms in District 214 are equipped with Apple TV. Teachers and students are able to project laptops and iPads onto the screen in the classroom. Here is a short video demonstrating the use of Apple TV in a classroom at Hersey.
