Do I need tumbling to tryout for Prospect Cheer?
No! You don't need any specific tumbling and many of our athletes come in with no tumbling. We do have a requirement of a minimum of a tuck (running or standing) to make the varsity squad. During our seasons we do ask that athletes work on their tumbling by attending a tumbling class, private lessons, or open gyms to continue progressing in their tumbling.
What are the typical costs associated with Prospect Cheer?
Great question - costs vary by team level, years of cheer, and the school year. It is important to the coaching staff that we keep the sport as affordable as possible. We do have fundraising and returners to the program need to purchase less than new athletes. For a detailed cost breakdown of a specific year, please reach out to shelby.rosin@d214.org
Can I do another sport while also doing Cheer?
It kind of depends on the season! Prospect is an activity during the fall, a sport during the winter, and we do not practice during the spring. During the fall and winter season our athletes typically only do cheerleading. Unfortunately, most coaches will tell you that, schedules typically overlap too much to be able to do two sports well. We can usually make outside dance, gymnastics, all-star, etc. work with our schedule during the fall season. During the winter season we have practice 3-5 days a week plus competitions on Sunday, and basketball games. You cannot participate in an all-star cheer program and a high school cheer program during the winter season per IHSA rules. During open gyms, coaches will ask you about your plans to try out for other sports and we can discuss what we can make work. During tryouts, preference may be given to athletes who are planning to be a part of Prospect Cheer for both seasons. Here are the other sports that take place during the three athletic seasons.
