CLC’s 2025 Musical
Have you been seeing odd posts about a musical called the “Melody Dude?” Now, of course that’s not a real musical. Our real musical this year for CLC 2025 is titled The Music Man. That may be a more unfamiliar name than something like Shrek, but that just makes it more interesting! One of my favorite parts of a musical is getting to know the characters in the moment and to have fun following a new story. The Music Man follows the adventure of a musical con-artist who plans to skip town, but his plans are foiled when he falls in love. With a new sense of community, the town is brought together and discovers that Harold Hill may be a good man after all. Featuring a chatty quintet, a barbershop quartet, fun dances, and a little bit of teen lust, The Music Man brings a colorful town to life. However, in my opinion, the most exciting part of this musical is the children’s ensemble! The last time CLC had a children’s ensemble was in 2019 for Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat. The cast has had so much fun working with the kids and they add an amazing element of dimension to the town’s community. The Wells Fargo Wagon will be rolling across the stage on March 13, 14, 15 at 7:00 pm and March 16 at 1:00 pm. Join us on the wonderful journey to River City, Iowa and meet a stubborn town, a clever con-man, and a heart-warming family to discover the impact of righting your wrongs. Buy tickets here for only $13 or free with the student activity pass, and make sure to keep an eye out for their snazzy tee-shirts!

Leap (Year) Frogs
By Mr. Thomas
2 - 3 - 2025
Ribbit.
If March comes in like a lion, maybe February starts like a Frog?
Or at least that’s what it feels like at Crystal Lake Central this winter.
Central High School - home of the Tigers, actually - is known for many things: its 100-year tradition, its fireplace-front-hall, Mr. Eschman. But if you pay close attention something new is hopping into consciousness. Tiny Frogs. Have you seen them?
Don’t worry - they aren’t real amphibians. They’re plastic, colorful, subtle, and small.
They are scattered, too, not in plain sight but just visible enough for students to recognize, collect, and wonder. How did they get there? Who placed it on the door frame? The stairway ledge? The crowded hallway corner?
And along with the who, the ultimate question is why?
And that’s where imagination and optimism collide. I’m not sure who’s to blame or praise, and I’m not sure the purpose of these decorative figures. But I can appreciate the results. February is a tough month in high school - in general, really. It’s cold and wet and down. So when something can shift our thinking, it’s worth noticing. No matter the origin story.
So to whoever’s behind the froggery, I say “thank you.” And to whoever happens to spot the next one? Enjoy.
This year was our 17th annual Homecoming Olympics! What an event it was! Everyone showed their tiger spirit and brought their A-game! With our new event, Tic-Tac-Toe Relay, we had lots of fun competitions, but it is so exciting to be a part of such an amazing event that no other school in our district does!
