What is an NHS hour vs. a Non-NHS hour?
An NHS hour can be logged only from opportunities that we offer to members. This can be found in the Service Events page on this website.
Ex: PADS
A Non-NHS hour comes from an opportunity that we do not offer that you find on your own.
Ex: Volunteering at local food pantry
When to log hours
All hours should be logged within two weeks of completing service except for those mentioned below:
Environmental club- log every two weeks (NHS or Non-NHS)
Farm/ Plant Sale (10 hours per semester)
Link Crew- log every two weeks
*Please note required Link Crew events such as Freshman Orientation do not count as service opportunities.
Examples of acceptable Link Crew Submissions include: volunteering for freshman transition presentations or any other events that are not required.
Sports Managing- Log at end of season (20 hours per season)
Must have coach confirmation via email or a written note
Pass Runners- End of Semester (15 hours per semester)
Library Helper- End of Semester(10 hours)
Must be reliable and consistent, checking in at least 3 times a week
Must have confirmation from librarian via email or written note
Stage Managing/ Green Room- End of Production(10 hours)
Board Member (10 hours)
Crew Head 5 hours (each production)
Athletic Training- End of semester(10 hours)
SWAT- No need to log, automatically sent at end of semester (25 hours per year)
Examples of Acceptable and Unacceptable Non-NHS Hours
Acceptable:
Volunteering at local food pantry
Unpaid volunteer based internship
Environmental Club
Feed My Starving Children
Grayslake Colts Junior Coaching
Elementary School Field Day
Unacceptable:
Walking neighbors dog
Mowing Lawns for pay
Babysitting
Pet sitting
Paid Jobs
