Christmas Carol Task

Task

  • This week, I'd like you to think a little bit more about the social context in which Charles Dickens was writing A Christmas Carol. As you learn more about the Victorian Era this week, ask yourself how it all relates back to the characters and scenes from story we just finished.

    • How did all of these things affect the plot and characterization in A Christmas Carol?

Scrooge's nephew, Fred, is hosting a New Year's Day Party to celebrate his uncle's new outlook on life and you are all invited! The revelations of his miserly, miserable past have left Scrooge eager to learn more about those who have helped him to change. In order to accomplish this, Scrooge hopes to understand the values and customs of people he meets in this day-to-day life in Victorian society. Your group will investigate and present on one aspect of daily life in Victorian London.

Your preparation will be divided into two stages. Click on the links below to check them out!

(You also have hard copies of all this information)

1. Group Investigative Roles: you'll work with your group to investigate one aspect of the Victorian time period. (Use the resources link below to get started!)

2. Presentations: (as a group) you'll share information about your topic in class during the New Year's Day Party. View the group rubric here.
