During these times of change and uncertainty, it is natural for all of us to feel some frustration, confusion, fear and anxiety. It is important to remember that our children look to us, as adults, for guidance on how to react and cope during events like these, as unknown as they may be. Please do your best to reassure your child that health and school officials are working hard to ensure that everyone stays healthy and safe.
Even though a lot in our lives has been disrupted, a great deal is still within our control. Encourage your child to focus on what they can do to keep themselves healthy: getting recommended sleep, healthy eating, drinking plenty of water, and exercising! Additionally, please take our health officials’ recommendations seriously; stay home as much as possible, wash your hands, and avoid touching your face.
In addition to our physical health, it is equally important for us to take care of our mental health. Encouraging our children to do things that help them relax, such as deep breathing, stretching, meditating, journaling, reading, exercising, or listening to music is incredibly important. Also, help and encourage them to stay connected to friends and family and all the people who care about them. Seeing and connecting with each other, even if it's virtually, will help us get through these challenging times.
The social-emotional health and wellbeing of our students and families is most important to us. As part of that commitment, the D102 community has compiled the resources listed below to help you stay safe and well during this time.
