Hi, I’m Dr. Jessica Hanson. Students call me Dr. Hanson. I’m an assistant professor in the public health program at UMD. I have my Ph.D. in Community and Behavioral Health from the University of Iowa. Prior to coming to UMD, I managed a research lab and research team in South Dakota. When it comes to research, my primary area of interest involves developing, implementing, and evaluating public health interventions within Native American communities.
Students have the opportunity to be involved in existing research projects that are focused on the prevention of alcohol-exposed pregnancies. Students will gain an understanding of the development, implementation, and evaluation of an evidence-based, public health intervention as it’s disseminated both in-person and remotely (e.g., mHealth or eHealth). Students will have opportunities to work with both qualitative and quantitative data, depending on interest and availability of data. Students may also have an opportunity to work on grant development and budgets.
