There are lots of benefits to working as an LA:
You get an introduction to teaching and get a better understanding of why some methods are used in active learning classrooms.
You get to support your peers and help them to learn better.
You'll work side by side with a faculty member to improve classes in the SCSE.
Teaching and working as an LA can help you to learn the material in the course you've already taken even better.
Your experience as an LA will help prepare you for future careers and post-graduate education.
You'll get paid $15.25/hour for 5-10 hours of work per week.
Applications are due on Monday, April 6th, by 8:00 AM.
There are three main components to your LA job:
Attend a mandatory dinner (for all LAs) and training (for new LAs) on August 31st from 4:30-6:00 p.m. for all LAs and 6:00-8:00 p.m. for new LAs.
Participate in a paid weekly training session to learn more about active learning strategies in the classroom and practice them with other LAs before you go into the classroom. (Returning LAs do not need to repeat the training). You must be able to meet at one of the following times in Fall 2026:
Wednesdays 3:00-3:50 p.m.
Wednesdays 4:00-4:50 p.m.
Thursdays 2:00-2:50 p.m.
Collaborate with your faculty member in a weekly preparation meeting (about 30-60 minutes weekly)
Assist in lectures, review sessions, problem-solving, etc - this will vary depending on the course for which you serve as an LA. See the course information sheets below for more details.
