Accessing maps

Seeing maps online

1. Download the Google Maps app using the App store or the Google Play store. Log in using the same account as Google Calendar (or another if you prefer).

2. On your phone or on a computer, go to our website at https://sites.google.com/d.umn.edu/lakesuperiorphenology/trails?authuser=0. This should take you to the trails page of our website.

3. Scroll down to the Google Map of your trail.

Downloading maps option 1 (If this option does not work on your device, try option 2.)

  1. Select the share icon on the top left of the map (marked with an "A" on image below).

  2. Select “Embed on my site” from the dropdown menu (marked with an "B" on image below). This will take you to the google maps site or app. You should see the map with colored points for each plant.

  3. The map should automatically save to your Google account.

  4. At the trails, you can use the mobile app on your phone. Open the app and select “Saved” at the bottom (marked with an "C" on image below). Go to the tab at the top labeled “Maps” (marked with an "D" on image below).

  5. The trail will be listed as long as you are using the same account as the first time you accessed the map. Select the one you would like to open.

Downloading maps option 2

  1. Select the bracket in the upper right hand corner of the map you are interested in downloading (see black arrow below).

  2. There should be a header on the right and in the right hand corner of this header, there should be three dots. Click these dots (see black arrow below).

  3. A menu will appear. You need to select “Copy map”

  4. You can rename the map if you want. It will now be in your maps.
