Hello Omega Caregivers,
Information about caregiver-teacher conferences will be sent out this coming Tuesday by email. Conferences are scheduled with your student’s core teacher, but notes are collected from teachers of math, humanities, world language and science to share.
This week, eighth grade students had the opportunity to meet with CVU counselors to learn more about CVU and learn about class sign-ups. Please check in with Betsy Lloyd in guidance or with your student’s core teacher if you have any questions.

8th Grade Family Night
Champlain Valley Union High School
CVU Gym, Thursday, February 13th, 6:30-7:45 p.m.
This evening will provide you and your student an introduction to the academic and elective programs they will experience in the 9th grade. Parents, caregivers, and students will be welcomed by Interim Principal Katherine Riley, Core Director Anthony Spagnolo and the Student Council Quad-Presidents. Parents/caregivers will then join teacher panels while students will take part in group activities and presentations led by Student Council.
We are excited to welcome you all to CVU, and hope to see you all there!
7th Grade Humanities: In class this week, students learned about essay organization including how to incorporate evidence and analysis into body paragraphs. We examined counterarguments and how to refute those in your essay. Finally we learned how to close an essay with a strong conclusion.
8th Grade Humanities: This week, students researched different WWII battles and worked together to create a poster showcasing key takeaways and the significance of their chosen battle. For current events, they focused on connecting new vocabulary to current news.
7th Grade Math: This week students have been learning about proportional relationships that involve fractions and decimals. If you want to help out your own student, practicing with fraction multiplication and division would be helpful.
8th Grade Math: Students finished their mid-unit summative and we continued our work with systems of equations. If you’re looking for ways to support them in math, practice with negative numbers, including fractions, would benefit all 8th graders.
Science:
7th grade- This week, students began their “Electrical Dream House” projects. Students are working on creating a scale model of a room with proper electrical lighting and switches. The “Dream Houses” will be on display at the science fair on Tuesday, February 18th.
8th grade- 8th graders continued to work on their science projects. They will be presented on Tuesday, February 18th.
World Language: 8th grade worked on a “selfie” assignment where they took pictures and presented their information using adjectives and the verb “to be.” 7th grade will take a summative on Monday on the numbers 1-00.
Important dates to note:
CVU 8th Grade Family Night - CVU Gym, Thursday, February 13th, 6:30-7:45 p.m.
