This site has guidelines, procedures and policies to help a coach and/or activities advisor to better perform the duties of his/her job. This manual has been established to provide the needed information both from a practical and legal standpoint. This document is not for evaluation purposes but was designed as an informational supplement for a coach and/or advisor. The combined work of administration, coaches and activities advisors in developing this document is to help guide coaches and activities advisors in their work with students.
All of us who have participated and coached or advised recognize how important the bond between the student and the coach/advisor is. The coach/advisor clearly is a role model, for better or worse, for the student.
Coaches/Advisors may not be the reason students come out for sports, but they’re usually the reason students stay. Coaches/Advisors don’t give students ability, but they discover or develop it. Coaches/Advisors make both the quantitative and qualitative difference.
Coaches/Advisors can be the reason some schools win more than others. Coaches/Advisors can be the reason some schools have better sportsmanship than others. Coaches/Advisors make the difference between a program of excesses and a program of education. Coaches/Advisors can be the critical link in the educational process of students, they can be the critical link in the sportsmanship at contests, and they can be the critical link in the traditions of success which some schools enjoy. It has always been so, and always will be so.
Coaches/Advisors, nothing that is done in athletics or activities in this state is more important than what you do with your students day-in-day-out during the season.
Thank you for your essential contribution and, please, stay with your high calling. You make a difference!
