A coach or school district activity supervisor is responsible for each student from the time school is out, as well as ensuring that a minimum of one coach/supervisor rides the bus with the team/group to and from any practice or event, to ensure student safety upon arriving after school hours.

When traveling away from school with students as an advisor of a school program, a staff member must supervise students. Some guidelines are outlined here, but beyond these guidelines it is the responsibility of the staff member to abide by Central Valley School District Policy, the law, and to choose actions that would be considered reasonable and prudent. The head coach, director, or advisor has the primary responsibility for the supervision of students entrusted to the care of his/her program, as well as the other paid and volunteer staff who are assisting in the coaching, advising, directing, and supervision of students.
