As of September 1, 2024, teachers of Computer Science courses must possess a Computer Science certificate or hold a Computer Science Certificate of Continuing Eligibility. Teachers who hold certification in other areas may obtain a second, CS certification by completing 12 hours of CS courses that cover the NYSCS&DF topics. Must hold Professional or Permanent certification
Certificate applies to an individual teacher who:
Has taught at least one acceptable computer science course for the employer
Is currently employed by the employer
Valid 10 years from issuing date
Applicable only where employed when certificate issued
Computer Science certificate must be earned to continue teaching after SoCE expires
Teachers with Permanent or Professional Certification may:
Earn a CS certificate by taking 12 or more hours of CS courses covering topics in the NYSCS&DF standards
Request Individual Evaluation of CS courses through TEACH
