The Battle of the Books is a reading incentive program for students in 3rd thru 5th grades. Students read books and come together in teams to demonstrate their abilities and to test their knowledge of the books they have read. There are separate reading lists for 3rd grade and 4th & 5th grade teams, however, 4th and 5th grade students compete within their grade levels.  To participate the student must have read at least six of the books on the reading list.  Teams are a maximum of six students.  Participation forms can be reviewed and downloaded from the grade level links below.

There are three competitions: a Relay Race, a Family Feud style game and a Jeopardy style game. Students are asked questions about the books they have read and earn points for identifying the book title and additional points for the author.  At the end of the game the points are added up to determine the winner.

Book Club meetings are held separately for 3rd and for 4th/5th grade.  Book club is voluntary and students are not required to attend book club to participate in the Battle of the Books, nor are they required to participate in the Battle of the Books to attend book club.  However, they must read the book being discussed at book club and complete the Book Club Worksheet.  The book club meeting schedule and worksheet can be accessed and printed by clicking on the grade level links below.
