Due to the timing of the project and how we progressed over the semester, we had little time to do true testing of our products. There was some passive testing with the layout of the Makerspace and with the Drill Press Tray as other EDD Students used the space and the drill press. The VEX Cubby was installed during the week of finals, already known to be needing improvements, as do the other aspects of this project, but more of that later.
Outside of the passive testing, seeing what has worked and hasn't in the makerspace, we started things off strong with a survey, polling students about their feelings of the makerspace and in organization.Â
What things in particular do you look for in having organized space?
Labels
Easily Accessible Organization with labels
Stricter enforcement of putting tools back in place
Categories of things to make them easier to find
Being able to walk around or even run without getting close to anything
Things placed in the same spot every time
Being able to find things
Having a clean area with a lot of space to work
Describe ways/tools/systems you try to keep your space organized, but it doesn't work
Put things back where they belong
Just cleaned up after
Making use of VEX Kits
Is there any key organization thing that you dream of one day having?
Perhaps a map of where things belong?
Ideally something similar to what Raimund made for the 2x4s and planks, but perhaps for acrylics and spots for people to label and place personal projects or classwork in (maybe little whiteboards squares with cubbies for someone to write their initials and place the work in there)
A robot that sorts all your screws and stuff
Categories
A portal to a pocket dimension
I want everything to be in the same place and all out together
Peg board?
Enough space
