The main goals for the concept of the cubby was for it to fit across the wall between the microwave and the door to the closets. It had to organize and separate kits that are easily accessible to students, while giving a proper place for their projects.
The most important parts of the layout figuring it out, was keeping the flow good throught the space and making things self explanitory in where they would go. Another important part was to make sure there is space for people to work.
In order to catch the dust and shavings that come from using the drill press, the tray would have to catch them. Not shown in the drawing, but it was planned to have two pieces to clamp around the circle base of the drill press.
A way to keep good records of what people need to do and what they have trained with before.
Projects had never had a home until this point. The shelves would give them a home where they would be out of the way and keep them safe from being damaged and/or messed with.
