Are we learning Castilian Spanish or Latin-american Spanish?
The answer is neither.
Spanish is varied and differs from one country to another.
The Spanish that we are learning is considered International Spanish that uses vocabulary and idioms from many of the countries.
The overall goal is to be able to communicate with someone from any of the Spanish-speaking countries.
Will I be fluent after taking Spanish 1 or Spanish 2?
No! It is very important that you understand this and to not get discouraged. Language is incredibly complex and takes years and years of listening, speaking, reading, and writing to grow and reach higher levels of fluency. Enjoy the journey of being in the process of becoming fluent in another language and trust that as the years go by, the results will amaze you and you will never regret the progress that you have made.
