About Profe Cav

¡Hola a todos! My name is Jared Cavaness. I have taught Spanish for 13 years at Castro Valley High School. The school staff and students refer to me as Profe Cav. I am a teacher, husband, and father to 3 amazing kids.

I am passionate about language, teaching, music, and integrating it all together in the classroom. I have created songs and rhymes for just about every grammatical concept that I teach from the Spanish alphabet to the differentiation of verbs in the preterit and imperfect tenses.

I also teach language through storytelling. I have written or co-written the majority of the stories that we read in Spanish 1, Spanish 2, and Spanish 3. Our class motto is, <<¡¡Hablamos, escuchamos, escribimos, y cantamos, en español, todos los días!!>> It translates to: “We speak, we listen, we write, and we sing, in Spanish, every day.” Even in Spanish 1, students will speak, write, and sing thousands of words and they find the experience incredible.

Being able to watch the students as they progress from Spanish 1 to AP Spanish has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I look forward to working with all students and families as we explore, learn, and acquire the amazingly beautiful Spanish language.
