What is exciting about teaching is teaching is a lifelong learning job that we get paid to be learners, especially during the summer. Here's some photos and tips/links we've learned through our years of teaching to help make engineering the best pathway ever!
From design to in the field building, engineering has LOTS of options and career opportunities for kids of varying interests. To the left are a few recent photos of Ms. Holmes and Mrs. Porter getting a summer opportunity to hang out with other teachers and visit sites such as: a structural engineering firm, architecture firm and a construction site. We hope that a few photos fuel some excitement and passion for these STEM opportunities and that you'll want to join the Engineering Pathway at CVHS.
We had the opportunity to tour and explore a structural engineering firm, architecture office, and a construction site.
Hats off to all of the water companies that serve the Bay Area! The Water Week hosts pulled out all the stops! Short of throwing us a barbecue and bringing in an orchestra to play us a symphony, I don't know what else they could have possibly done to share their enthusiasm for the amazing work that they do! These professionals really love working in this field! Here are the highlights: At the Hayward Municipal Utilities District we visited water distribution pumping stations, explored engine rooms, drove an excavator, and hung out atop a two million gallon water storage tank. On our next visit, Contra Costa Water District introduced us to professionals from several different disciplines including human resources, diversity and inclusion specialists, accounting, public relations, and school outreach.. Principal engineers overseeing gigantic multi-million dollar projects made impressive presentations. Operations and maintenance gave us a tour of their water treatment plant. Finally, not to be outdone, East Bay MUD came through with a tour of their sewage treatment plant, and their Central Hub touting their capability to fabricate anything and everything. As far as they're concerned, there is no such thing as an irreplaceable part! The Central Hub has fully equipped shops for each and every trade necessary to keep the system going. This field is wide open for anyone interested in water and infrastructure. We will always need water to remain clean and healthy, so I hope that our students will take advantage of all the wonderful opportunities in Civil Engineering ,Architecture & the Skilled Trades. (Field Trips for our students coming soon!)
This summer, AVID was back in person at the Hilton in downtown San Francisco, California.
