Welcome to Civil Engineering and Architecture (formally year three in the engineering pathway). We are very excited to help you be successful in a better understanding of some pretty cool engineering standards. Below see links to a course overview, contacts, syllabus and some basic information to get a better idea of the class and please contact or email me if you have questions. See you in class!
Course Overview
Civil Engineering and Architecture is known as a specialization course. What this means is that we will concentrate on skills that are specific to the building services industry. Although most of you are focused on becoming engineers, we will spend the first part of the year looking at the building industry through the eyes of an architect. Since civil engineers work with architects, seeing things through their perspective will provide you with insights that you might not have otherwise considered. You will also gain access to the tools and techniques widely used in this industry.
Unlike doing assignments that are purely theoretical or academic, much of the work you do in this class will be similar to what a real engineer or architect might do. Every year, we meet with industry partners to determine what you need to know in order to be successful in this industry. We take that information and incorporate those skills into our curriculum. By the time you complete this course, you will have gained marketable skills. Last year, some of our students gained certification in REVIT, the industry standard in building information modeling. At least three of our CEA students got paid internships in Public Utilities (And they pay very well). Several of our graduates have won scholarships and have been admitted to engineering or architectural schools throughout the country.
