Ways to Help Students
Homework Help Tips for Parents:
Create a homework routine for your child if you don't already have one. Open binder reminders to review and discuss homework each night.
Provide a quiet, well-lit place for your child to do homework. Help your child to set up the homework zone in a way that’s comfortable for his/her style.
Encourage your child to do his/her best work and let your child know that you believe he or she can succeed with time and effort.
If your child gets stuck on a problem, have your child access his/her online textbooks for homework help and hints. Their math notebooks and toolkits are excellent resources as well.
Some assignments may be easy, and others, quite challenging. Help your child to learn to persevere rather than shut down when challenged by a difficult task. Suggest using a different approach or suggest he/she give the problem a rest and come back to it after thinking about it for a while.
Growth Mindset:
Research has shown that we must help our children to develop Growth Mindsets rather than having Fixed Mindsets. Watch the following videos to understand what a Growth Mindset is, as well to gain insight on how we can help our children to develop this mindset.
