Students explored the perspectives of the California Native Tribes and the Franciscan Missionaries to create two-voice poems and two images based on a single mission. Follow the Lesson Plan link for resources.
We brainstormed as a class what we had learned about the lives of California Indians and Franciscan Missionaries and how their lives changed as the mission system grew.
Students turned their ideas into two-voice poems, playing with the back-and-forth of voices and ideas as they shaped their rough drafts.
Students then created artwork with oil pastels and watercolors to depict the different points of view of a single mission. They identified an abstracted area of the mission and used a grid transfer method to create their images.
