Each year we make corn husk dolls to place on the Thanksgiving centerpiece (or to play with!). Every year I am blown away by the simple elegance of the kids' pieces.
Our class has been working with the oil pastel medium. This medium lends itself to blending, which is a great way to capture the colors of autumn.
Read how students feel about working with oil pastels.
Students created their own species with adaptations that help them survive in a theoretical environment.
Students let the natural materials they worked with guide their designs. This art was inspired by Andy Goldsworthy and bowery birds. Lesson from the Arts and Creativity Initiative.

I made these sculptures on 9/28/2020 in my yard. When I made these, I was thinking about the video you had us watch. It was challenging because i had to find all the materials. I was surprised how good it looked when I was done. I’m feeling like it would be fun to do it again. I want people to know that you can make art with wildlife.
Sculptor: Bradley

Sculpture by Chezney
I made these sculptors on 10/2/2020 in my front yard. When I made these I was thinking about riding my horse and going to my Grammy's house that afternoon and face timing Lola. It was challenging to keep them in the same spot because my dog Otis would walk on it. I was surprised how good it turned out because I could only use things outside. I feel proud that I kept a positive attitude and was happy the hole time. That I worked hard doing this project.
Sculptor: Lola
I made these sculptures on 10/2/2020 in my front yard. When I made these, I was thinking about eating candy in the middle of the night and trying to do good on my nature art project. It was challenging to keep the wind from blowing all my supplies away. I was surprised it turned out so good. I’m feeling happy and proud when I finished my project. I want people to know I worked hard on my project.
Sculptor: Zaiden
I made these sculptures on september/28/2020 in the front yard. When I made these, I was thinking about what to put in my art. It was challenging because I could not find what I was looking for. I was surprised that I could just use something else. I’m feeling good about what I did. I want people to know it takes nature to make art.
A Form of a Circle
Sculptor: Daylin
I made these sculptures on 9/30/2020 in Eureka, California. When I made these, I was thinking of how i wanted it to look like and what the shape it would be. I was also thinking about all the different types of plants and flowers I picked out. The most challenging part was we had to pick the plants and flowers. It was also hard to figure out where I put the plants and flowers. I was surprised that I found a great circle and it looks so great. I also was surprised that there were so many colors in my circle. I am feelling really good and great because i think it turned out really good and pretty. I want people to know that if you make a mistake you can always try again and you can make a lot of designs and patterns. I like mine a lot and I hope you like yours.
Sculptor: Izzy
When I made this, I was thinking about a fairy. It was challenging because I had to go get a lot of supplies and that was a struggle. I was surprised that it turned out good. I'm feeling happy because I like the way it turned out. I want people to know that I think I will like theirs.
The Ocean's Gift
Sculptor: Bella
I made these sculptures on 10/1/2020 in at home outside in our backyard on the table. When I made these, I was thinking about the ocean and the cool different shape of the seashells. It was challenging because there were so many choices to make a design. I was surprised when i was finished and saw how cool and beautiful it was. I’m feeling really surprised and happy. I want people to know: That the big shell in the middle is a shell that my great grandma found, and that i got the rest of the shells from the pacific ocean.
Sculptor: Olivia
I made these sculptures on 10/2/2020 in front of my house. When I made these, I was thinking about a sun. It was challenging because I have limited resources. I was surprised on how it trubed out. I’m feeling happy. I want people to know. Sometimes things can
be diffcolt but you can get throu it.

I was surprised that it did not blow away right away. I’m feeling happy with how it turned out. I want people to know that I like your Art of Nature project because it is beautiful.
Sculptor: Liam
Sculptor: Brody
I made these sculptures on 10/1/20 at my house. When I made these, I was thinking about making something with rocks I collect and find when I go places. I knew I wanted to use rocks. It was challenging to make a good star form I had to try it a few times. I was surprised on how it turned out. It took me awhile to find good rocks to use. I’m feeling good about how it turned out. I like the shape and if you seen it in person it looks like it is sparkling because of water on the grass. I want people to know that the grass sparkles behind the star and made it look super cool even though the picture doesn't really show that.
Sculptor: Maya
I made these sculptures on 10/1/20 on my back porch. When I made these, I was thinking about beautiful nature. It was challenging to make it so it looked like a circle and arranging the the flower petals so it looked like a flower that was blooming. I was surprised to see how good it turned out. I’m feeling good about how it turned out. I want people to know how hard I worked on this project.
Sculptor: Nolan
I made these sculptures on September 30th in Eureka out on the sidewalk in front of my house and on my front steps. When I made these, I was thinking about people walking by on the sidewalk looking at them. I was thinking about the people liking my art and that it would make them happy. They probably didn't see anything else like it in our neighborhood. It was challenging because I got bit by a bug while trying to cut leaves from our front yard. The wind was blowing the leaves away. I put a rock on top to hold them down. I was surprised to see that my art was still on the front porch the next day. The leaves moved a little but they were still there. The flowers dried out but the leaves look the same. I’m feeling happy that nature loves and respects my art because the wind didn't blow my art away. Neighbors in my community who love my art too and that makes me happy. I want people to know that anybody can be an artist and can create art out of anything. I feel my art is down deep in me.
