2017-2018
On Sept 29th, we experienced an exciting, high-energy outdoor BMX assembly on the black top.
On Nov 6th, Canadian Author Tyler Enfield visited Portal (from Edmonton, Alberta) to talk about his latest book, Hannah and the Magic Eye. Our students also enjoyed a "Lunch with the Author" session where Mr Enfield answered questions on his work as an author, and his life. Students were able to purchase personally autographed copies of Mr Enfield's books.
On Dec 11th, Fire Station 15 drove their fire truck onto the blacktop (basketball courts) and talked to our students about fire safety. They reinforced emergency procedures (stop-drop-roll) and gave students an opportunity to tour their fire truck and touch equipment.
On Mar 5th, Mr. Hung Pham from the Santa Clara County Vector Control District educated our students on mosquito safety and how we can prevent mosquitoes from breeding in our homes.
2016-2017
On April 17th, 2017, Children's book author, Oliver Chin, visited Portal and read his most recent book Year of the Rooster in an assembly to all our kindergarten, first, second and third graders. The Year of the Rooster is now the most asked for book in our library! Portal penguins get excited about reading all over again whenever we have an author visit. Thank you to our parent organization, PSCO.
On May 24th, 2017, Barry Lane, motivational speaker, visited Murdock-Portal to sing and encourage us towards acts of kindness!
