Welcome to 4th/5th Grade! My name is Rebecca Kirk and I will be your child’s teacher this year. I am proud to have been a part of the great community here at CUSD for the last 16 years, and I am excited to get to know you and your children this year!
First, I would like to introduce myself and let you know a little bit about me. I grew up in Sunnyvale, and attended schools in the nearby Santa Clara Unified school district. I attended San Jose State University and was a part of the Integrated Degree and Credential program. In this program I earned my B.A. in Child and Adolescent Development, and my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with a CLAD (Cross-cultural, Language, and Academic Development) emphasis. I continued my education by attending Santa Clara University in order to earn a Master’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Education, with an emphasis in Reading and Language Arts (one of my passions). I have also earned two other credentials, including a Reading and Language Arts Specialist credential and an Administrative credential. I have two sons, Micah and Miles. Micah is 11 years old, is very energetic, and enjoys everything involving the outdoors! Miles is 8 years old, goes-with-the-flow, and loves to explore the world outside alongside his big brother. Our family also includes our four-year-old Golden Retriever, Maui, who of course, also loves to enjoy the outdoors, especially anything involving his frisbee and a lake!
In my spare time, I love to read, swim, hike, bike, spend time outdoors, watch movies, and spend time with my boys!
I desire to be an advocate of change in the lives of children. I believe that all students have a significant contribution to make in the classroom and in the world. As a teacher, I hope to facilitate, encourage, and promote that process of self-discovery. My hope is that your child feels a sense of belonging, value, and community in Room 17. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of your life this year. I look forward to getting to know all of the Room 17 families this year! It is going to be very exciting!
