LANGUAGE ARTS PERIODS 2/5
Watch the Information vs. Argument Essays screencast (silently, using headphones/earbuds) and pay attention in particular to the citation portion.
For the rest of the period, if you're ready to do some essay writing, you can create a new section and bookmark in your doc called "Session 8 Writing" (if you haven't yet) and get started with your first draft. Otherwise, spend time researching the topic that you think you will focus on for the remainder of this project. This essay is due in two weeks, so don't procrastinate!
EARTH SCIENCES PERIODS 3/4
You have your own copy of the PICS (Partners in Community Service) Research Collection Template for Bay Area Non-Profit Organizations in Google Classroom. In about a month, our class will have to present our top choice for donating $500 to in front of the Cupertino Rotary Club.
Do independent research on Bay Area Non-Profit Organizations and fill out the doc for "Organization #1," "Organization #2," so on and so forth. Don't fill in the "Template."
3. If you happen to fill out the doc for THREE organizations and still have time leftover in class, think about how to argue/defend the organization you think is most deserving to receive the $500. The next step is to also draft an e-mail to the organization because we will be inviting the top three to speak to our class either in person or via Zoom.
THERE IS NO GAME PLAYING ALLOWED OF ANY SORT ON THE iPAD.
LANGUAGE ARTS PERIODS 2/5
Watch the Session 7 and Session 8 screencasts (silently, using headphones/earbuds) on Informational Writing while you take notes on your own Information Writing Unit Notes & Drafts doc. Make sure to pause the video to jot down new Learning Targets or anchor chart bullets.

EARTH SCIENCES PERIODS 3/4
Finish the questions on pg. 101 "Global Climate Change" if you haven't.
Complete the questions on pg. 102 "Ice Cores and Observatories" by reading the associated reading posted in Google Classroom. Feel free to import the reading to Notability and annotate/highlight if it helps.
Next, you can do one of two things:
check to see if pg. 66-102 in your Science binder are all complete; if not, finish any work that is incomplete (we will stamp binders tomorrow)
watch the "What Happens If the World Warms Up by _____°C?" series of YouTube videos if you haven't yet (silently, using headphones/earbuds).
Import the "Human Activities and Global Climate Change" STEMscopedia posted in Google Classroom to Notability so you can directly annotate on the text. When you're ready, test yourself on your knowledge using the MagicSchool chatbot tool. You can save this step to do Thursday in class when Mrs. Damozonio is back. There will be a quiz on this scope next Monday.
THERE IS NO GAME PLAYING ALLOWED OF ANY SORT ON THE iPAD.
LANGUAGE ARTS PERIODS 2/5
Finish reading I Am Malala if you haven't. There will be a quiz on the book in another week or so.
Work on the Malala Inspirational Quote poster. You have your choice on the size of paper. Please start your artwork using pencil, not pen (in case you make mistakes). Each person only gets one sheet of paper! The poster is due in two weeks.
EARTH SCIENCES PERIODS 3/4
Focus on the scope called "Influences of Weather and Climate" in the STEMscopedia textbook. You will read the whole scope today using the book and also fill out the handout (front-and-back).
Before you start reading, complete the Pre-Reading activity in Word Splash.
As you read, fill out the back side called Digging into the Text.
When you are done reading the whole scope, complete the Post-Reading activity in Word Splash.
If there is still time left, log into STEMscopes via Clever and work on the Concept Review Game and Independent Practice associated with Influences of Weather and Climate.
Test yourself on your knowledge of this scope by using the MagicSchool AI Study Buddy Chatbot. Don't forget there is a quiz on this scope next Friday.
LANGUAGE ARTS PERIODS 2/5
Work on A Long Walk to Water Chapters 10-12 assignment posted to Google Classroom. The discussion will take place TOMORROW in class so get those questions answered first. You should already have the Story Recap paper from Chapters 7-9.
EARTH SCIENCES PERIODS 3/4
Find the assignment called "Predicting Weather STEMscopedia" and import the pdf of the chapter text into Notability first. Annotate the text as you read to help yourself understand it.
Click on the link posted to Google Classroom to do a MagicSchool quiz for the "Predicting Weather" chapter like you did yesterday with the AI chatbot.
LANGUAGE ARTS PERIODS 2/5
There has been a document pushed out to you in Google Classroom titled "Narrative Session #4" Here are some ground rules for this assignment:
This is completely INDEPENDENT WORK done at your own pace. There should not be any collaboration or talking involved.
If you're having a hard time writing, revisit the audio podcasts we listened to or mentor texts we read.
Take the whole period to write. If you "think" you're done, add more sensory details and figurative language.
If you do not finish in class, you can continue to write and finish at home.
Create a subpage under Language Arts in your Google Sites portfolio called "Narrative Unit" (only if you haven't yet), then embed the Narrative Session #4 doc on that page. This must be done before you leave for Brunch/Lunch.
EARTH SCIENCES PERIODS 3/4
Go to Brainpop.com using Safari or Chrome and log in using Clever. Work on "The Water Cycle Investigation" for the whole period. If you are done early you may work on another assignment quietly or read a Science World magazine (get it from the substitute).
Whatever you don't finish in class today becomes homework. The assignment is due next Monday, 11/4.

ANY TIME YOU ARE IN MS. SUN'S ROOM TODAY...
You are working on the eclipse packet. You will also be given time in Ms. Huang's room to work on it as well. Here is a slide deck that Ms. Huang/Mrs. Damozonio will be going over with you first.
On the page that is titled “Solar Eclipse Observations,” you will take the the index card (already hole-punched) outside and hold it about 6-8 inches above the paper so that the sun’s image is projected into the square you are drawing on. Sketch/trace the image of what the eclipsed Sun looks like at the following times:
Box #1 10:15 a.m.
Box #2 10:30 a.m.
Box #3 10:45 a.m.
Box #4 11:00 a.m.
Box #5 11:15 a.m.
Box #6 11:30 a.m.
Box #7 11:45 a.m.
Box #8 12:00 p.m.
Box #9 12:15 p.m.
On the page that is titled “PATH OF TOTALITY” with a blank U.S. map, use the link to the Washington Post article and follow the path of the eclipse and label all the U.S. locations (there are nine total) featured on the map as well as the time that people in the city will experience totality.
Make sure you pull up Google Maps to help you locate and label those locations accurately on the map.
Using Google Maps to help you, try to plot 10 more cities in the path of totality on your map. Scroll down to the section called "Totality Over the United States" and explore what the eclipse is supposed to look like for each of the 13 states.
Look up the weather for all of the locations you plotted. Using the Hourly view, what is the weather like during the approximate time of totality for that place? Will they be able to see the eclipse?
(Completion of the eclipse packet can be turned in for extra credit)
