Math 6 flex topics cover the five domains in the California Core Curriculum Standards in a condensed manner: Number Sense, Expressions and Equations, Proportional Reasoning, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. You will learn to use your skills of mathematical reasoning to solve rigorous math problems both individually and in a collaborative setting.
Math flex is a 6th grade class that will cover all 6th grade standards and expose you to some 7th grade standards. There will be opportunities during class to work on optional mathematical topics during a unit if you wish to stretch your learning. To be successful in this class you will need to have good study habits and dedication.
PARENTS: Please DO NOT have students work or read ahead in the CPM book! It will not help them and only cause them to be bored in the classroom. This is not like traditional textbooks where preparing ahead helps with the curriculum. I really want them to be able to explore the math first hand with their table group each day as the curriculum is intended to do.
Assessment dates are announced in class and posted in HW section below. Assessments are generally given every 2 weeks.
*How To read math homework problems assigned from the textbook:
# before "dash(-)" means the chapter, and #s after "dash(-)" mean problem numbers; so #8-8 means chapter 8, problem 8
