Joanne Wegscheid
Violin/Viola
I retired as the orchestra director of Wheaton Warrenville South HS and Edison Middle School in 2021. I taught in CUSD #200 for 35 years. My HS orchestra students performed tours in China and Spain. They also performed multiple times at Disney World and at the U of IL String consortium. My MS orchestras have received Best-Overall Orchestra at the Music in the Parks Festival at Great America in both Gurnee and St. Louis. My philosophy of teaching is simple; to make music a fun and exciting experience for all my students. For 24 years, during the summer months, I kept my students busy with my Garage Orchestra. Students met once a week in my garage or later as we outgrew the garage, at the HS, for rehearsals and concluded with a “Ravinia-style” concert in my front yard. In 2014, I received the Teacher of Distinction Award from Golden Apple. I have guest conducted MS orchestra festivals in the Chicagoland area and have taught summer Meca classes at VanderCook College of Music. My primary instrument is the violin. I graduated with my Bachelors and Masters in Music Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
