Course Description- The purpose of this thought-provoking course is to educate students about the basics of psychology and explore many different psychologists’ theories. The course will begin by looking at the various approaches to psychology including biological, behavioral, cognitive, humanistic, and psychodynamic. Students will learn about hypotheses, reliability, validity, and types of studies by engaging in hands-on activities and experiments. Students will become informed of different psychological disorders and treatments for these disorders. In addition, students will develop an appreciation for famous psychologists’ works including such psychologists as Sigmund Freud, Erik Erikson, Abraham Maslow, Jean Piaget, Ivan Pavlov, Alfred Binet, and more. Throughout the entire course, students will learn elements from the field of positive psychology including promoting optimism, kindness, and setting life goals.
