Course Description-This will fulfill the Illinois State Board of Education graduation requirements for a consumer education course. The purpose of this intriguing semester-long course begins with a quarter designed to help students explore various careers and education requirements for those careers, as well as learn the proper way to compose a resume and cover letter. This unit will conclude with interview tips, and mock interviews with the superintendent to better prepare students for the real world.   The second quarter students will gain a basic and practical understanding of both micro and macroeconomics.  Students will gain the tools and skills necessary to become educated consumers in an ever-changing world, and develop a comprehension of how the market operates.  Emphasis will be on the foundations of microeconomics including such terms as demand and supply, market equilibrium, and opportunity costs through hands-on activities and projects.  Students will also engage in a media literacy unit to increase their consumer awareness.   Finally, students will learn both how to and the importance of budgeting, writing checks, and having good credit.
