Community Elementary School Nurse Website

Health Updates

We are continuing to see strep throat cases. Please make sure your child completes 24 hours of antibiotics before coming to school. Otherwise, the illness is still very contagious.

Covid 19 Guidelines have been updated by the Department of Health. Please see Illness Guidelines page for details.

Welcome! As your school nurse, I evaluate your sick or injured children, teach health classes, coordinate health screenings, and maintain health records.  It's certainly busy, but it's fun! I love getting to know you and your children during their time at Community.

Every encounter with your child is a teachable moment and I am fostering a culture that promotes self-care and independence.

Communication with families is very important and I hope this website makes it easier for you to find the information you need and the forms that should be sent to me.

Mrs. Goldberg,

MSN, RN, WHNP-BC, SNT

Can students get medication at school?

The following medications are stocked in the nurse's office and can be dispensed by the school nurse:

1. Tylenol/Motrin (or generic equivalents)

suspension, chewable or tablets

2. Tums (or generic equivalent)

3. Benadryl (or generic equivalent)

suspension or tablets

4. Cough drops (grades 2-5 only)

If you want the nurse to dispense any medication not listed above,

you must have a provider order!

This includes over-the-counter and prescription medications.   Ex. antibiotics, eye drops, topical products

Please click here for required paperwork.  A parent/guardian signature is required in addition to a provider's. If a provider faxes an order separately, then only the parent/guardian's signature is required on the form.

The medication must come in its original, labelled container, with the student's name.

The nurse is not permitted to apply sunscreen, but students may self-apply with a provider order.

Students are not permitted to self-carry medications in elementary school. All medications, including inhalers and EpiPens need to be brought to the nurse's office. It is a safety issue.
