**For families who prefer an added layer of safety during lunchtime, we offer a peanut/nut-free table in the cafeteria. We also offer a designated peanut/nut table available for students who bring lunches containing peanuts or tree nuts (for those picky eaters). Please note that seating at the peanut table is limited, and families are strongly encouraged to send a nut-free lunch whenever possible.
It is important to note, that we do have students with severe, life-threatening allergies to peanuts and tree nuts. The smallest amount of an allergen can trigger a full blown allergic reaction. Please read labels on products.
Not permitted in classrooms:
All tree nuts and peanuts
Foods with peanut oil/flour
Foods processed in a facility with nuts
Products that may contain tree nut and/or peanut scents and oils.
Frequently Asked Questions and Answers:
Q: My child needs an Epi-Pen at school. What is the process?
A: Have your provider complete and sign the allergy form (see below). Parent/guardian signatures are required on both pages. Bring the forms and a labelled, unexpired EpiPen to school. Ideally, keep it in the box from the pharmacy.
Q: Do I need to send in Benadryl to school?
A: No, we have generic Benadryl (diphenhydramine) in the nurse's office if needed. If you prefer Claritin or Zyrtec, you may bring that in, but a medical provider's order is necessary to administer at school.
Q: Will my child be able to carry his/her Epi-Pen on field trips?
A: No. Students are not permitted to self-carry their Epi-Pen on field trips. However, it is school policy that your child will be assigned to his/her teacher’s group, and the teacher will carry the Epi-Pen throughout the trip. Teachers receive yearly training on how and when to administer an Epi-Pen. Additionally, if you are selected as a chaperone for the field trip, you may carry your child’s Epi-Pen with you.
