Dear Parents/ Guardians and Students,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. Although this is not a typical beginning, I am positive we shall get through it.
The Nurse Aide course is a two year program in which students will meet the requirements to take the Virginia State Board of Nursing Exam for Nurse Aide certification. These requirements include classwork, lab hours and clinicals. Students will also participate in numerous community and educational events to encourage volunteerism and awareness in our youth such as Making Strides against Breast Cancer, Hand washing Campaign at CES, Cumberland Christmas Mother, CTE Month activities, Annual HOSA Health Clinic, Red Cross Blood Drive, and Relay For Life (if scheduled during school calendar).
The Intro to Health Occupations course offers opportunities for students to learn about a career in the medical field. I will introduce the high demand for employment in healthcare, work ethics, job interviewing skills, preparing a resume’, basic principles of body systems, and an introduction to First Aid and CPR. The students will research careers, including the different levels, in radiology, laboratory, emergency care, nursing, doctors, veterinarians, mental health, public health, community health, and nutrition.
These courses will offer students hands on experiences and life lessons to spark their interest in health care and hopefully to continue their education in the medical field.
All students will need a school issued or personal device to access google classroom and emails in order to complete assignments while virtually learning. Google Meet schedule, supply list, syllabus and pacing guides can be found in google classroom. Each student will be invited to join a classroom via email.
I invite you to contact me by phone or email to answer any questions you may have.
Respectfully,
Mrs. Lisa Winslow, RN BSN
