Cub Scout Pack 139 was originally chartered in October 1991 by Partin Elementary School in Oviedo, Florida. It is currently chartered by The VFW Post 10139, Chuluota. We currently meet throughout the school year at Partin Elementary.
Current membership in the pack is of children from kindergarten through fifth grade, approximately 30 scouts, plus their parents and siblings. Ours is a high-quality, family-friendly pack as evidenced by earning several Boy Scouts of America awards each year, and having a full schedule of fun events throughout the entire year. This is only possible through the high level of parent participation. Every family is expected to do some share of both the den and pack work.
During the school year, we have a pack meeting every month. Dens meet anywhere from one to three times each month. In addition, we have some annual events such as pack camping trips (fall and spring generally), a Blue and Gold banquet, a Pinewood Derby, and Scouting for Food. Other events over the years have included a trip to the USS Yorktown in South Carolina, summer day camp, bowling, a day at Daytona Lagoon, Medieval Times, UCF Baseball and Football games, and a Harlem Globetrotters game.
Our pack is funded by two annual fundraisers and an occasional carwash. In the fall, we sell popcorn in front of local stores as well as to family and friends. In the spring, we sell camp cards which give discounts to local restaurants and other businesses. This money funds awards for the boys, some of the cost of our big annual events, pack meetings, leader training and registration, pack supplies, and much more. The rest of the cost of events is paid by the families that attend.
Pack 139 supports the community in many ways. Every year we help collect food through the Scouting for Food program. We have also helped with laying Wreaths on the graves of Veterans during the holidays, cleaning up at Partin Elementary, among others.
