Objective: To create awareness among final year students about various opportunities in the Indian defence sector.

Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women, in collaboration with Vizhi Awakening Trust, organized an event on “Defence and Leadership Awakening Movement” for third year students at the JJK Auditorium from 10 a.m to 12 p.m. The event began with a welcome address by Ms. Jessica from III B.Sc. Psychology, followed by the felicitation of the chief guests by Mrs. Alima Zehra. The main session was delivered by the Chief guest Mr. M. Sivasubramaniun, Managing Trustee of Vizhi Awakening Trust, who enlightened and motivated the students by discussing the numerous opportunities available in the Indian defence sector and explained the selection process, requirements, and qualities necessary to pursue a career in the defence sector. A special address was delivered by the Guest speaker and former Indian Army office, Captain Vineeta Dixit (Retd) who inspired the students by sharing her personal experiences and anecdotes during her service in the Indian Army. Additionally, a scholarship test was administered to all the students to select top performers for a free defence training program. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Sharon from III B.SC Psychology.

Outcome:

The event was highly beneficial and enlightening, with positive feedback from the students. Meritorious students were selected for free defence training program.

Objective: 

To create awareness among final years about saving the humanity in the society.

Department of Psychology and Social Work in collaboration with Bodhi Charitable Trust,jointly organized an awareness programme on “ManithamKaapom” for third yearstudents at the JJK Auditoriumfrom 9.30 a.m to 12 p.m. The programme began with a welcome address by Ms. Sharon and Ms. Vichitrafrom III B.Sc. Psychology, followed by the felicitation of the chief guests by the Vice Principal, Dr. P.J. QueencyAsha Dhas. The introductory session was taken over by Mr. David, founder of Bodhi Charitable Trust who spoke about saving humanity in the current society and described various activities and events that can be done to save humanity. The main session was delivered by the Chief Guest, Mr. M. Mohammad Ali Jinnah, founder of PasiIllaTamizhagam, who inspired the students with a humble and modest speech about the various humanitarian works done by his non-profit organization, PasiIllaTamizhagamfor people from underprivileged sector of the society like homeless people, people with physical and mental illnesses who were abandoned by their families and are living on the roads.He enlightened and inspired students by explaining about ways through which they can aid in saving the humanity in the society by simple contributionsand voluntary work. Then a Q&A session was conducted, where students and faculty members eagerly asked various doubts about how they can make their contribution to this humanitarian cause. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Sharon from III B.Sc Psychology.

NANDHAVANAM SHELTER HOME VISIT

 The Department of Psychology, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women, organized an outreach program for the students of III B.ScPsychology. The students were taken to the NandhavanamShelter home on 19.08.2023 with the help of the college bus. Through this outreach, students got the opportunity to interact with inmates of the home who gave a heartwarming welcome and were joyful to meet the students. The students as well as the inmates shared the stage together and conducted several games like Ball passing, group dancing, and singing. The students also distributed notebooks and lunch boxesto the inmates which was sponsored by Mrs. Alima Zehra, Head of the Department of Psychology as a token of love from her side. The excitement and joy on the face of the inmates was priceless to watch.Overall it was anexciting day and a great memory that students will look back to in their future.

To enlighten students about the importance of psychology in today’s world

The Department of Psychology, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women, organized a psychology lecture series on the topic “Importance of Psychology in today’s world” for students and facultiesat the JJK Auditorium from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. The event began with a welcome address by Ms, Sahana from III B.Sc. Psychology, followed by the felicitation of the chief guest by Mrs. Alima Zehra. The main session was delivered by the Chief guest Dr. T. Lavanya, Head of the department of psychology, University of Madras, who enlightened the students about the importance of psychology in today’s world and psychology can be applied in various aspects of our life. The Chief guest had an interactive discussion with the students about the current issues faced in today’s technology driven world. After the event, the Chief guest honoured the student representatives of the Department of Psychology with badges and inaugurated the “Wall of kindness”- a new initiative started by the Department of psychology to promote generosity and prosocial behavior among student community of CTTE College. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Bassima from III B.SC Psychology.

To educate students on the white cane and how to approach a person with visual impairment

The Department of Psychology, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women, in collaboration with The National Association For The Blind organized an Awareness Session on the topic “White Cane Safety Day” for students and facultiesat the T. Thomas Auditorium from 12:30 to 1:30p.m on October 13th 20203. The event began with a welcome address by Ms. Pauline Christina S from III B.Sc. Psychology, followed by the felicitation of the chief guest byMrs. Alima Zehra, Head of the Department of Psychology. The main session was delivered by the Chief guest Ms. Dipti Bhatia, CEO of The National Association For The Blind, who educated the students about the white cane - a device used for navigation- and how to approach and help the visually impaired.The Chief guest had an interactive discussion with the students and demonstrated the use of the white cane. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Sweatha S from III B.SC Psychology.

Outcome:

The event was extremely beneficial and informative. All the students expressed positive feedback.

To create strong awareness about the significance of Mental Health and its importance among the student community.

The Department of Psychology, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women, in collaboration with The Lion’s International commemorated the Mental Health Day for students of various departmentsat the JJK Auditorium from 9:00AM to 10:30 AM to recognise the importance of mental health and its requirement in the present world. The event began with the welcome address byMs Pauline Christina S of III BscPsychology,followed by the felicitation of the chief guest by Dr. Queency Asha Dhas, Vice Principal. The introduction about the Chief guest PMJF Lion M Sridhar, District Governor, Lion’s International District 324M was delivered by Ms Jessica of IIIBscPsychology after which he presided the session andenlightened the students by discussing the current scenario of mental health in today’s world and the universal prerequisites to achieve it.This was further proceeded by the introduction of Dr. PavithraArunachaleeshwaran, Consultant Psychiatrist, Department of Youth mental health, SCARF who addressed the gathering by sharing many insights about the promotion of youth’s mental health and positive well- being. The Newsletterfor theyear2023, curated by the department of Psychology was released in the presence of the chief guests.The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms.Afra from III B.SC Psychology.
